A vision of a figurine or insect suspended in plastic comes to mind when most people think of resin but there's a lot more you can do with resin. Envirotex Lite is a do-it-yourself resin kit that allows home craft makers to do things like add high gloss finishes to projects, create objects and jewellery and decorate furniture.

Glaze Surface

You can use Envirotex Lite resin to glaze the surface of découpage projects like boxes, journals, metal plaques or picture frames. Glue an image or decorate with paint on a wood, metal or cardboard surface. Use a small amount of resin and paint over the découpage project. You can also colour the resin with dye and use it to add high gloss to a painting project, a collage or furniture.

Start with a ring or pendant bezel jewellery base and select the items that you want to set in the resin jewellery. You can use pictures, beads, lace, dried flowers -- anything that will fit in your bezel jewel. Select the colours, if any, you would like in the jewellery. You can use glitter, paint, dye or pigments to colour the resin. Arrange the items in the bezel frame and pour the resin mixture in the frame. If you want to layer the items between layers of resin, let each layer set 24 hours before adding another item and layer of resin. Add a chain or pin to the back and wear the item as jewellery.

Cut out an image from a magazine or a photograph, or draw your own design on a piece of paper. Glue the image to poster board and cut it to match the size of the image. Colour or decorate the poster board where the edges show. Paint a coat of Envirotex Lite onto the image evenly. The resin will not come out of the paint brush, so use a cheap, disposable brush. Let the resin set for 24 hours. Fix a magnet on the back of the poster board with a glue gun or super glue.

Snowflake Ornaments

The Mad in Crafts website talks about creating a snowflake ornament with the Envirotex Lite resin. Tape a ribbon folded into a loop to the inside of a silicone snowflake mould. Mix and pour Envirotex Lite resin into the mould. Try to reduce bubbles by pouring the liquid slowly into the moulds. You can also add glitter in the resin mix or sprinkle a layer of glitter on the resin after it is in the mould. Let the resin sit for 24 hours and remove it from the mould. You can use different moulds to create shapes that can be used as ornaments, paper weights, decoration or toys. For example, use a heart mould with red glitter for Valentine's day, or a snowman for another winter ornament.
