Inspector Gadget, an accident-prone, cyborg detective, is the title character in the popular 1980s cartoon "Inspector Gadget." Famed for his gear-ridden limbs and comical way of solving crimes, Inspector Gadget---along with his fellow main characters---is a beloved cartoon for people of all ages. From Penny, the inspector's crime-fighting niece, to Dr. Claw, the detective's arch-enemy, "Inspector Gadget" is full of memorable personalities. By compiling a few common articles of clothing, you can make costumes commemorating Inspector Gadget, Penny, Dr. Claw and their fellow cartoons.
You'll find many of the items needed to create an Inspector Gadget costume around the house or in a local thrift shop. To make a costume just like the detective's, obtain a knee-length, light-khaki trench coat. You'll also need a gold-buckled tool belt, holding a magnifying glass, a tape measure and a flashlight. Under the coat, wear a collared white shirt, an azure tie and boot-cut blue jeans. To cap off the costume, don a light-khaki fedora, light-brown loafers and thick, dark-brown work gloves.
To mimic Dr. Claw's signature look, you must master the villain's hair. Colour your hair and eyebrows white with temporary spray paint, and mould your hair into three spikes using gel. For clothing, wear a black undershirt, steel-grey trousers, a black suit coat with the collar popped and black, thigh-high combat boots. For an especially authentic Dr. Claw costume, wear silver gloves accessorised with spiked-gold wrist cuffs and carry around a stuffed-grey cat.
Pigtails are a simple, yet necessary, hairstyle to copy in order to create a Penny costume. To dress like the inspector's niece, wear a red, short-sleeved shirt with a thick white stripe around the middle, red sneakers and olive-green, cuffed trousers with a white patch on the right knee. Strap a thick-banded, silver watch around your left wrist to complete the Penny costume.
Although the detective, Dr. Claw and Penny are the central characters in the "Inspector Gadget" series, there are a few reoccurring characters after whom you can model costumes. You might dress like Brain, the detective's sleuthing dog; Chief Quimby, the inspector's cigar-smoking boss; or Corporal Capeman, the detective's sidekick.
