Make a high school classroom cool and inviting so students will want to learn and be productive. There are many ways to to decorate a high school classroom. A teacher will want to decorate a room in a cool way that will excite students about learning and provide visual support for the lessons being taught without being a distraction.
Choose a cool theme when decorating a high school classroom. The subject being taught may be a good place to start for theme inspiration. An English class teacher may choose to decorate her classroom in decor items inspired by a classic book. For instance, a teacher could put up a movie poster along side of the book cover for the story "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey. Put up bird cages and bird decorations to carry-out the theme. Or carry out a Hollywood theme and put up movie posters from various classic books that have been turned into movies, such as "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Gone With the Wind" and "Les Misérables." Other themes include Hawaiian or tropical, Western or music. Practically any theme can be used in a classroom including an outer space or decade theme (such as the 1980s).
Teachers can choose to change the high school classroom decor to match the season. A cool fall classroom may include the traditional fall symbols such as colourful leaves and pumpkins. But the decor can also include decorations that will appeal to the high school student, such as a pretend television schedule. Since fall is the start of the new television season, you can play off of this idea by creating made-up televisions titles for the various units in your class. For instance, make a television schedule that shows "9 a.m. -- Are You Smarter Than a High School Student?" which represents the show, "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"
In the winter, feature various winter sports such as skiing and ice skating images and props. For the spring, use a fashion theme showing "The New Spring Line" which can include images of the students modelling fashionable clothing.
Let high school students create their own decor items for a cool classroom look. Leave plenty of wall space for student submitted photographs and drawings. Allow students to hang up poems and short stories that they have written. Another way to include students in decorating the classroom is to ask them to vote on a theme and let them contribute theme-specific decor items that they have created.
