Rather than throwing out your old Popsicle sticks utilise them in an assortment of craft projects. Create variations of the standard Popsicle stick house craft or make a variety of Christmas ornaments. Reuse Popsicle sticks to make boxes or as bookmarks, though be sure to always clean your sticks first to avoid gooey messes from traces of ice cream and other frozen treats.

Box Crafts

All sorts of box crafts can be produced from Popsicle sticks. Stack the sticks as you see fit to make shallow and deep containers depending on your ideas or needs. Make containers with or without a Popsicle stick lid, which can be made by gluing sticks right next to one another, edge to edge. Paint the boxes in solid colours or with assorted designs, or leave them as is. Arrange sticks to make different-shaped boxes as well, such as hexagon and octagon shapes.

House Crafts

As with Popsicle stick boxes, Popsicle stick houses may be created in a variety of ways. Create houses for display only or as a doll house. Ideas include square and rectangular houses and barn displays, "shed"-type houses with one wall left open for placing doll beds and other furniture, or go for more ornate designs. Tree houses and several-story houses are options for more ambitious crafters. Try painting your Popsicle houses in various colours.

Puppets and Bookmarks

Create a variety of bookmarks and puppets using Popsicle sticks. Pom-poms and googly eyes may be used to create both puppets and bookmarks. Try dying or painting the sticks in assorted colours to create page markers. Felt that is stuffed with cotton balls and sewn is another option for puppets, which can be decorated with googly or painted-on eyes, as well as eyes and other features that are sewn on. Use paint, small craft winter and Santa hats to create Santa and snowmen puppets, or glue craft foam in various shapes, such as butterflies, to make bookmarks.

Photo Frames and Christmas Decorations

Use Popsicle sticks to create your own photo frames, which may be designed and painted as you see fit. For example, try painting a photo frame in rainbow colours for photos from a gay pride festival or dye a frame in the colours of your alma mater for graduation pictures. Other craft ideas for Popsicle sticks include gluing them together in triangle shapes to create reindeer face Christmas ornaments or gluing them to make a Christmas sleigh. Gluing assorted-size sticks horizontally to a vertical stick is another craft option for making a Popsicle stick Christmas tree.
