As a knitter, you know that one of the things that knitters love most is putting their yarn and needles to work in order to create designs and gifts for their friends and families. Sometimes, however, knitting the same old hats, scarves, book marks and sweaters can get boring. It is more fun to play with your knitting skills and create gag gifts. Each of these suggestions appear to be useful, but are sure to evoke giggles and maybe even gasps of embarrassment from the recipient.
Devil Horn Beanie
Let your friends and family know how you really feel about them but whipping up a beanie with devil horns on top. This is a great gag gift for a novice knitter to make because it is as simple as knitting a hat (which is typically the first thing knitters are taught to knit in the round), then separately knitting two triangles as horns and stitching them to the top of the hat.
Who doesn't love ripping open a wrapped package in front of everyone they know, then holding up a pair of underwear? There are plenty of patterns available online for all styles of panties, boxers and even thongs. Panties are the simplest of the three to knit, as long as you know how to decrease and increase stitches. Thongs will require that you can knit an i-cord, and boxers are the most advanced of the three. If you're a very skilled knitter, and going for a big laugh (or red cheeks), consider knitting a pair of old fashioned bloomers.
It has recently become popular in knitting circles to knit beards, moustaches, side burns and various other types of facial hair. You can knit a beard that will wrap around the chin and fit around ears to keep it from falling off the face, attach a piece of tape to a moustache to make it stick to the recipient's upper lip or knit sideburns into the sides of a knitted hat. This gag is especially funny when given to a young man entering into puberty, or a woman who clearly cannot grow facial hair of her own.
Gag gifts generally trend towards items that are raunchy and jokingly meant for the boudoir. Knit items can fulfil this need as well. Patterns exist for everything from "willy holders," to nude dolls, to "booby pillows" and any other body shape imaginable. These items to tend to require advanced knitting skills, and they are not to be attempted by the faint of heart.
