Dressing up as a vampire for Halloween has long been a favourite costume idea. When you want to dress up for Halloween or another type of costume party as a vampire, consider taking a twist on that costume and dressing up as a Gothic vampire. The Gothic style is known for contrasting between extremely dark and extremely pale, so take that into consideration when you create the make-up for your costume. The make-up can help your costume go from regular vampire to Gothic vampire.

Your face should be chalky white when you dress up as a Gothic vampire. You can use one of a couple different methods to create the pale look on your face. Choose a pale shade of liquid foundation that is several shades lighter than your natural facial complexion. Alternatively, choose white make-up from a costume shop. This will be more translucent than face paint, but will give more coverage than traditional foundation. Whichever method you choose, apply the make-up to your face with a sponge, blending it up into your hairline and down over your throat.

Create a dramatic look around your eyes when you are dressing up as a Gothic vampire. Apply pearly white eyeshadow all over your eyelids. Then, apply black eyeshadow to your eyelids between your eyelashes and the crease. Use black eyeliner to heavily line the tops and bottoms of your eyelids. If you are a woman, complete the dramatic eye look with a coat of mascara. The mascara is optional for men.

Another critical element to your Gothic vampire look is your lips. Line your lips with a thick, wide rim using a black lip liner. Fill in the liner with a coating of black lipstick. Add a coating of clear lip gloss to give your lips a shiny look. Be sure to keep the lip liner and lipstick within the lines of your lips, because you do not want it smearing onto the white surface of your face.

Add details to your Gothic look so that it resembles a Gothic vampire and not just a Gothic person. Use black eyeliner to draw a widow's peak at the centre of your forehead and extending up to your hairline. Add drops of fake blood around your mouth so that it looks like you have recently been drinking someone's blood.
