They say blondes have more fun, but brunettes also have some creative and cool Halloween costume ideas to choose from. Don't worry about having to colour your hair or buy a wig for Halloween; your natural brown hair will work well with these costume ideas.

Wonder Woman is a female heroine who is a comic-book legend. She has long, brown hair and wears the iconic red, blue and gold leotard with a gold crown and red boots. Don't forget your Wonder Woman rope and gold wristbands. Wear your hair loose and flowing to best pull off the Wonder Woman look.

Silk Spectre is one of the stars of the comic and movie "Watchmen." She helps other superheroes fight crime and is known for her yellow and black leotard; thigh-high, black boots; and long, dark hair with fringe. Add a silver belt to complete the costume.

Rock stars

Fictional rock star Josie is the brown-haired singer of the cartoon band "Josie and the Pussycats." To dress like Josie, wear leopard-print trousers, a crop top or tank top and feline embellishments such as cat ears and a tail. Finish off the costume with rock-star make-up, glitter and platform high heels or boots. Grab a guitar or a microphone as a prop.

Pay homage to the 1980s with a Joan Jett look. Jett, a natural dark-haired brunette, is a guitar-playing icon and hero for women who rock. Jett wore her hair in a "mullet" style -- short on the top and long in the back -- in her heyday; the style can be pulled off by using hairpins and hairspray. She favoured dark eyeliner; heavy, black eyeshadow and mascara; and red lipstick. Tight, leather trousers; a black muscle shirt; and a leather jacket and boots complete the look.

The popular "Twilight" series of movies and books stars a heroine named Bella. Bella has long, flowing, brunette hair and falls in love with a vampire named Edward. On prom night, Bella wears a blue gown, loose hair and crutches. She breaks her leg during a climactic action sequence in the movie, so the crutches, or a leg brace, add detail to the costume. Bella also wears sneakers with her prom dress.

Alice Cullen is Edward's psychic vampire sister. She has short, reddish-brunette hair and a stylish fashion sense. She wears a trademark velvet choker necklace. Pair skinny slacks or jeans with a cute top and stylish vest, and finish the outfit with flats and a scarf knotted casually around your neck.

Traditional costumes

You don't see too many blonde witches. Embrace your dark hair and dress as a witch. A witch costume is simple, and you can put your own twist on it. Wear black clothing and shoes, a witch hat and dark make-up. Add a broom as a prop and you're ready to go.

A brunette would make a dashing devil. Pull on a red leotard and tights or a red dress and hose with red shoes. Apply dark make-up and dark-red lipstick, and finish the look with devil horns and a tail. Red, glitter make-up or flames drawn on your face with make-up add flash.
