Substitutes for Pam Cooking Spray

Pam cooking spray is available in many varieties and offers excellent non-stick properties when used in many different cooking methods. Whether you're grilling, frying or baking, Pam cooking spray can be used to coat metal surfaces and provide a non-stick barrier for almost any type of food. This not only allows for easy removal and turning of food but also promotes very even cooking without burnt areas or "hot spots." Depending on the recipe, or your individual taste, other products can be substituted without sacrificing quality or flavour.

Butter is a very common ingredient in most households that adds flavour and richness to many foods. It is especially prized for the ability to perfectly sear fine cuts of meat and steak, and is often used by exclusive restaurants to produce delicious chops and steak. Butter's exceptional non-stick characteristics also make it a great choice for baking cakes and muffins.

Vegetable Oil

This staple of Mediterranean cooking is used in sauces, salads or even to prevent pasta from sticking. Olive oil is also coveted for its omega-3 and the high levels of "good fats" it contains.

Canola Spray

A canola oil-based spray offers the same convenience of Pam but is made with a relatively low-fat blend of canola oils. Like Pam, this spray is ideal for baking and really lets the food's natural flavours shine through. Typically, it is only necessary to spray a thin coating on the entire sheet or baking pan for maximum effectiveness.
