Computer games involving archery can be used both for entertainment and skill practicing, since there are some archery simulation games out there. Some of these games are also ported to mobile and tablet devices since gaming is no longer restricted to just desktop and laptop computers and consoles. Some games are available for free while others can be downloaded for a minimal price. The games range from kiddie entertainment formats to stunning and realistic 3D archery simulations.

War Games

One of the most common types of archery games are those revolving around a quest or a war strategy game where bow and arrows are the main weapons used. Examples are Dead Tree Defender, Monster Hunt, Bow Chief, Kingdom Bow, Goblin Defense 2, Massive Attack and Arcane, all of which are compatible with Windows XP and above. Most war games involve an overall mission that the player must accomplish with the aid of his selected weapons. These can be single or multiplayer games.

Target practice games enable you to sharpen your bow and arrow skills. Correct arrow placement, target distance judgment and use of multiple archery tools are taught in these types of games. 3D versions are also for a more realistic gauging of targets. An example is the PC Archery 3D, which requires a Windows 98 or 2000 version or higher. Another example is the Archery Simulator from Corporate Entertainment Hire.

Child Games

Get the children into archery by introducing them to archery games such as Sherwood Shooter, Forks and Arrows, Penguin Defense, Green Archer 2, Zombie Mayhem and Bow Master Prelude. These games are not too complicated for children to get into and do not have gory details that may be disturbing for younger players.

Gaming Consoles

Archery games available through gaming consoles such as Nintendo's Wii or the Xbox 360 are also gaining popularity. For the Wii, there's the Wii Sports Archery, in which the player can simulate the movement involved in archery due to the wireless controller of the Wii and its motion sensor. There is also the Mario and Sonic Olympic Games for children, which has an archery event. For the Xbox 360, there's the Field Archer game both in free, trial mode and full version. Field Archer engages the user by placing nonanimal targets into the field and can be used by one to four players.
