The Bible refers to the Fruit of the Spirit in Galations 5:22-23 where it says "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Christians would do well to pray that they are able to demonstrate these traits in their lives because these qualities represent true Christian living.

The Fruit Of Love
In John 13:34, Jesus states "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." When you pray for the fruit of love, pray that you will genuinely love those around you, even those who may appear unloveable on the surface. In demonstrating love to others, you will show them God's love. Pray that God will show you ways to show his love through you by doing good and kind deeds. This could mean practical help such as giving to the poor or listening to someone's troubles or giving them encouragement. Take advantage of any opportunity to be kind to others such as in Jesus' story of The Good Samaritan told in Luke 10:25-37.
The Fruit Of Patience
We live in an imperfect world and God does not promise that Christians will never face tribulation or trials. Pray that you will have patience to endure difficult times so that you will continue trusting God and doing his will in your life. Pray that you will demonstrate patience when dealing with people who may not be kind toward us. James 1:2-4 says, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."
Prayer For Self-control
Self-control is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit that may distinguish a Christian from others who are not trying to serve God. Pray that when you are tempted to react in anger, you will calm yourself down and resist retaliation of any kind. Pray that you will be able to demonstrate self-control when you are tempted to sin in any way. Other people who know you are a Christian may be watching how you react in tempting situations, so you need to respond with self-control even if provoked or tempted. Pray that you will always control your thoughts, attitude and behaviour through help from the Holy Spirit.
The Fruit Of Peace
The New International Version of Philippians 4:7 states "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." This means that in times of hardship or confusion, you have access to supernatural peace of mind and heart. Pray that you will always experience this inner peace. Pray that you will always be able to trust God regardless of your circumstances. Continue to pray to be able to demonstrate the remaining fruits of the Holy Spirit in your life, including joy, kindness, faithfulness, goodness and gentleness.
