For many parents, getting a child to properly brush his teeth is a difficult task. However, when you attempt to make the task enjoyable by incorporating teeth brushing games into your child's routine, getting him to brush his teeth may become much easier. There are a number of games produced by dentists and oral hygiene companies, or you can create your own game to play with your child.

Online Games

There are numerous websites that feature online games about teeth brushing and dental hygiene. These games are created to keep a child'd interest and portray germs and bacteria in the mouth as the enemies of the game. Several toothpaste companies also have online games on their websites as well. Some of these games include killing germs with a giant tube of toothpaste and racing a clock to use a digital toothbrush to remove all the plaque on a giant set of teeth. These games will show children the importance of dental hygiene, which can help encourage healthy dental habits throughout their lives.

Race the Clock

Race the clock is a simple game that will ensure your child is brushing his teeth long enough. Put a kitchen timer in the bathroom, and tell your child he must race the clock and brush his teeth completely before the timer rings. Set the timer for at least three minutes. If your child does a thorough brush of his teeth in this time, reward him with a small gift. These gifts can even be dental hygiene related, such as silly toothbrushes featuring his favourite cartoon characters. Stand around your child while he brushes and constantly encourage him to keep brushing the entire time, even when he doesn't want to.

Brushing With Music

Having your child brush her teeth along with music is a great way to lighten up teeth brushing time. There are several ways you can turn music and teeth brushing into a game. You can simply have your child pick his favourite song each night and you play the song while he brushes his teeth. Make sure the song is three to four minutes long, so he reaches the recommended time for brushing. Allow your child to dance along while he brushes but make sure he doesn't hurt himself while the toothbrush is in his mouth. You can also pick a random song to play each night while he brushes his teeth. Tell your child that he has the length of the song to brush his teeth and think of the title or the artist of the song. Let him guess when the song's over; if he gets it right, he wins.

Clean-Teeth Competition

Encourage competitiveness with your child by holding a clean-teeth competition each night. This is especially effective if the child has other siblings to compete with. Buy disclosing tablets or solution, that shows spots missed during brushing when put in the mouth. These can be purchased at your local drugstore. After brushing have you and your kids take a tablet so that you can see how much was left behind after brushing. The person with the least amount of spots left behind, wins for the night. You can keep track of who wins with a simple chart posted in your bathroom.
