Weddings are known for intense detail planning. From the caterer down to the individual place cards, you want everything to be perfect and match your own personal style. Creating unique place cards requires going beyond the traditional folded white cards and using your imagination. Place cards can be made from virtually any type of material, in shapes and sizes to match your wedding style.

Favour Place Cards

Create place cards that will serve a dual purpose as a place card and a favour for your guests. Consider gift bags, candles, jars, glasses or dessert boxes with the guests' names on them. You can further personalise these items with your initials and wedding date. Placing these items at the assigned tables ensures your guest will not only find their seat, but will also get their own wedding favour.

Photo Place Cards

Personalise place cards with a photo. There are many different ways to use this idea. For example, you can use past pictures of you and the guest as the background of the place card. You could also use your engagement picture and write, "(Guests Name), Thank You for Sharing Our Special Day," at the bottom of the picture. Photo place cards can be displayed in photo frames, on small photo clips, as magnets attached to a centrepiece, or as a card. Photo frames can be personalised with your initials and wedding date, and photo clip holders should match your wedding theme.

Edible Place Cards

Rather than throw away crafty place cards after dinner, create edible place cards for your guests to enjoy at the table. Desserts are ideal for this idea. Cupcakes, slices of cake, chocolates and candies all work well. Write a guest's name in frosting on individual slices of cake and set in front of the setting for dessert. Another idea is to use large lollipops and write the guest's name on them as the place card. These can be set out individually, or as part of a bouquet in the centre of the table. Guests will love the creative use as a place card.

Themed Place Cards

No doubt your wedding is following some type of theme. Use that theme or your favourite hobby when creating your place cards. For example, if you are following a beach theme, find small seashells to hold place cards. If you play cards, personalise individual playing cards or an entire deck of cards with the guest's name. For a country-themed wedding, hang a small line from jars on the table and use clothespins to hang place cards at the table. The options are infinite, so use your imagination.
