Make your own ornaments or crafts to give to loved ones by using ordinary glass ball ornaments. Use clear or coloured glass balls to decorate, paint, fill or set out in bowls for home decor during the holidays. These homemade crafts can also be given as gifts by customising them to the recipient's favourite colour or style.

Snowman Ornament

Turn an ordinary glass ornament ball into a snowman ornament. Select craft supplies to create the snowman such as white paint to cover the ball, felt or material for his eyes, nose and mouth. To add earmuffs to your snowman, you will need two pom-poms and a chenille stem. Paint the glass ball with the white paint in one or two coats and wait for it to dry. Cut out pieces of the felt or material for his eyes, nose and mouth and glue them to the ornament with craft glue. For the ear muffs, you will cut the chenille stem in half and glue one stem to each side of the snowman's head then glue a pom-pom to each side.

Swirl Ornaments

Create a multicoloured swirl design with your glass ornaments with several colours of acrylic paint. Remove the caps from the ornaments and choose a paint colour to start with. Pour a little paint inside the ornaments and rotate the ornament around until the paint begins spreading around the sides of the ornament. Repeat this step with your second paint colour. Pour the excess paint out and let it dry. Once dry, choose a third and fourth paint colour and repeat the previous steps until you are satisfied with the result. The ornaments can be hung on your tree or placed in a bowl for decoration.

Picture Ornaments

Create floating picture ornaments out of your clear glass ball ornaments to put on your tree or give away as gifts. Print a photo of your choice onto transparent paper and wait for the ink to dry. While the ink is drying, remove the cap from your ornament. Roll the picture just enough to fit inside of the ornament and use a pair of tweezers to move and adjust the picture to where you want it, then place the cap back on the ornament.

Filled Glass Ornaments

Fill clear glass ball ornaments with your choice of items. Use your imagination! You can use any item that will fit through the hole at the top of the ornament. Choose items that will match the theme of your Christmas tree such as small sea shells and sand, beads and pearls, popcorn and cranberries, tinsel, feathers, lace or glitter. Take off the cap from the ornament and begin filling it with your items. It can be entirely filled with one item or filled with layers of things.
