Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe began in the 1950s in Pennsylvania Dutch country. The ingredients in Martin's potato bread contain readily available ingredients. Lois and Lloyd Martin marketed the famous potato rolls at farmers' markets and began selling the product locally in grocery stores and supermarkets throughout Pennsylvania and eventually the nation.

Potato Rolls

The ingredients of the potato rolls include unbleached enriched wheat flour, a blend of flour, folic acid, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin and ferrous sulphate. Additional ingredients consist of nonfat milk, reconstructed potatoes from potato flour, cream yeast, wheat gluten, sugar and soybean oil. The potato rolls contain less than 2 per cent of salt, dough conditioners and butter. Martin's potato rolls also include soya flour, enzymes, guar gum, datem and F.D. & C. Yellow No. 5 & 6. Martin's potato rolls contain 130 calories per roll, 1.5g of fat, 25 carbohydrates and 6g of protein.

Whole Wheat Potato Bread

Martin's whole wheat potato bread consists of 100 per cent stone ground whole wheat flour, nonfat milk, wheat gluten, reconstructed potatoes, sugar, cream yeast and soybean oil. The whole wheat bread contains less than 2 per cent butter, dough conditioners and salt. The ingredients also contain F.D. & C. Yellow No. 5 & 6, enzymes, datem, folic acid, soya flour, guar gum, thiamine, niacin and ferrous sulphate. Martin's 100 per cent whole wheat potato bread contains 70 calories per slice, 1g of fat, 14g of carbohydrates and 6g of protein.

Enriched Bread

The ingredients of the classic potato bread include unbleached enriched wheat flour, nonfat milk, cream yeast, reconstructed potatoes, wheat gluten, sugar and soybean oil. The enriched bread contains less than 2 per cent of dough conditioners, butter and salt. Additional ingredients include soya flour, monocalcium phosphate, calcium propionate and F.D. & C. Yellow No. 5 & 6. Martin's enriched bread contains 80 calories per slice, 1g of fat, 15g of carbohydrates and 4g of protein.

Long Rolls

The ingredients of Martin's long rolls include a mixture of unbleached enriched wheat flour, niacin, thiamine, iron, folic acid and riboflavin, nonfat milk, cream yeast and reconstructed flour. Martin's long rolls include less than 2 per cent of butter, dough conditioners and salt. Additional ingredients include soya flour, calcium phosphate and F.D. & C. Yellow No. 5 & 6. Martin's long rolls contain 130 calories per roll, approximately 2g of fat, 26g of carbohydrates and 6g of protein.
