What Table Cloth for What Size Table

Tablecloths are sold in a few standard sizes. Because manufacturers want you to buy their tablecloths, they describe a range of tables that a cloth will fit. For the best fit for your table, calculate the size cloth you want for the look you want. In some cases you may need to buy a larger size and modify the cloth to the size you want. If your table is custom, you may need to order a custom tablecloth or make one yourself.

    Round

To calculate the size of tablecloth for a round table, measure across the centre line diameter of the table, and add twice the drop length. Round tablecloths are available in three sizes. The 60-inch diameter cloth will fit tables 36 to 48 inches diameter. The 70-inch diameter cloth will fit tables 48 to 58 inches diameter. The 90-inch diameter cloth will fit tables 66 to 78 inches diameter.

    Square

Calculate a square table by measuring one side and adding twice the drop. Only one size square cloth is commonly available. A 52 x 52-inch tablecloth will fit tables that are 28 inches square to 40 inches square. If your table doesn't fall within this range, likely you will need to buy a rectangular cloth and modify the size to create the tablecloth you want.

    Rectangular

    To calculate a rectangular cloth, measure the length plus twice the fall for the length. Measure the width plus twice the fall for the width. A 52 x 70-inch cloth will fit a 28 x 46-inch to a 40 x 58-inch table. A 60 x 84-inch cloth will fit a 36 x 60-inch to a 48 x 72-inch table. A 60 x 104-inch cloth will fit a 36 x 80-inch to a 48 x 92-inch table. A 60 x 120-inch cloth will fit a 36 x 96-inch to a 48 x 108-inch table. A 60 x 144-inch cloth will fit a 36 x 124 to a 48 x 126-inch table.

    Oval

Calculate an oval table by measuring the long centre line and adding twice the drop for the length. Measure the width centre line, and add twice the drop for the width. A 60 x 84-inch tablecloth will fit a 36 x 60-inch to a 48 x 72-inch table. A 60 x 104-inch tablecloth will fit a 40 x 78-inch to 50 x 88-inch table. Tables outside these dimensions require custom tablecloths.
