A 50th birthday is milestone and should be celebrated. It is considered to be the "golden" birthday and is often accompanied by a birthday celebration. An occasion as important as marking a half century of life should include the best party ideas, including the best 50th birthday banners. Consider some creative banners to help the birthday boy feel extra special.

Photo Banner

A 50th birthday celebration should include friends and close family. Create a birthday banner that allows the birthday girl's family and friends, even those from out of the area or unable to attend the party, to be a part of the celebration. Ask friends and family members to create large cardboard letters and take a photo of themselves holding a letter. Assign one letter or character from the phrase, "Happy 50th Birthday" to a different person or family. You can easily coordinate this with geographically distant loved-ones through e-mail. Give each person or family an approximate size for the letter and ask them to create it themselves. Once you have all the letters for the birthday banner, print the photos and mount each one on a different piece of card stock. String the mounted pictures on a satin ribbon and hang. The banner can include photos of nearby friends and family or distant relatives. After the party, turn the banner photos into a scrapbook for the birthday girl.

Golden Banner

Create a gold-themed banner to celebrate a 50th birthday. Use gold paper or gold wrapping paper mounted on cardboard to form the letters. Draw bubble letters that spell out "Happy 50th Birthday" on the gold paper and cut them out. Mount the letters on a gold cord or rope and hang. You can use gold glitter if you want to make the letters sparkle more.

Sentimental Banner

Create a greeting card birthday banner for a 50th birthday celebration. Make each letter and character for the phrase, "Happy 50th Birthday" on a separate piece of card stock. You can either write or paint the letters on or cut them out and mount them on a contrasting coloured card stock. Give each card to a different loved one. Ask them to turn the card over and write a birthday greeting for the birthday boy. The notes should include sentimental phrases and memories, as well as best wishes for the future and praise for accomplishments. Hang the banner so the "Happy 50th Birthday" phrase shows. Surprise the birthday boy after the party by showing him the backside of his banner.

Modern Banner

A modern birthday banner is one of the best ways to wish someone a happy 50th birthday. Create a slide show on a computer. Use photos and text files (turned into .jpg files) to create a slide-show. You could also simply use your computer's screen saver program to write a scrolling message. Display the banner on a laptop. You can choose simply to use text or you can create a slide-show of photos from the birthday girl's life. Gather photos and use a scanner to create jpg files. Slide shows can be created through the use of software or just add the photos into your screen saver folder and select "random."
