Perler beads are tiny plastic beads with a hollow centre. They come in a wide selection of colours. You create projects by placing the beads on a pegboard, covering them with parchment paper and fusing them together using an iron. There are 3-D projects you can make by fusing layers of beads together.

Making cubes or boxes out of Perler beads can be done by creating panels that snap together. Place Perler beads on every other peg along the sides of the panels to create the holes to snap it together with. You can make dice, square coin banks or decorative boxes. Just leave out a row of beads to create a slot for coin banks on the top panel. Small boxes can be made only three beads wide, while large boxes can be made as big as needed.

Doll Furniture

Miniature furniture can be made using Perler beads. The Perler Beads website has patterns for various doll furniture, such as chairs, couches and pianos. For certain furniture items, you may need to use shaped pegboards to get a rounded look. Use rounded pegboards to create a little chair or couch. Any colour combination of Perler beads can be used to make the furniture.

Food Items

You can make 3-D sandwiches by making each condiment a different colour. Use yellow to create a square to resemble a slice of cheese. Using a round pegboard and red beads could resemble a tomato. Dark brown beads can be used to make a hamburger, and light tan beads for the bun. You can also make fried eggs using white and yellow beads in a circular pattern. Use black and white beads to create an Oreo cookie. The Perler Beads website also offers patterns for several food items.

There are flower-shaped pegboards available that let you make Perler bead flowers. Create half flowers and leave the beads out in the middle so you can snap them together to create 3-D flowers. You can even come up with your own flower design. Make a 3-D flower pot to put your flowers in by making circular layers and gluing them together.

Picture Frames

You can create different shaped picture frames to set up or to hang. Just leave the front panel open for the picture to slide into. You can create little designs along the edges or on the front of the frame to add dimension. You can also spell out words or names using different-coloured Perler beads in the frames.
