If you thought lamb cakes were only for Easter and you're under the impression that doves belong only on cakes baked for baptism and christening parties, it's time to rethink your dessert mindset. When a home is based on Christian values, every occasion deserves a cake decorated with sacred symbols and inspiring messages. Start a tradition of your own by collecting ideas for baked goods that taste sweet and bring plenty of faith into your upcoming celebrations.

Eat Two to Celebrate Noah's Journey

Keep a Noah's Ark theme simple but impressive. Bake cupcakes, cover each in blue frosting and pipe crosses on each cupcake in a rainbow of different colours. If you own a cupcake tree, arrange the cupcakes on the display, but instead of putting a cross-piped cupcake on the top, stripe that cupcake with the colours of the rainbow you used for the others, add a small plastic dove and you'll have constructed an homage to Noah's Ark. Replace the piped crosses with two tiny plastic animals atop each cupcake for a sweet treat.

Just for Angels

Bake a sheet cake from a favourite recipe and then ice it with blue frosting. Cut marshmallows into circles and arrange them into the shape of clouds atop the blue-iced cake. Nestle little plastic angels amid the clouds and sprinkle the cake with coloured sugar sprinkles or stars. Whether you're throwing a birthday party for one of your favourite angels, a baby shower or providing a Sunday school treat, you'll earn plenty of praise.

Inspired by the Bible

Bake a cake using a book-shaped cake pan and frost it with white icing. Here's the fun part: Boot your computer, set two pages of type with favourite Biblical passages (or choose Scripture appropriate for the occasion) and then print out the text on transparent sheets. Carefully place the two "pages" over the surface of the cake. Use a pastry tube to pipe decorative trim around the pages. Remove the sheets when it's time to cut the cake.

Holy Land Cake

Replicate the Holy Land on a cake. This requires small resin Nativity figures and animals that can be washed before and after use. Bake a sheet cake and frost it with icing tinted the colour of desert sand. Sprinkle the cake with sugar to texturise it. Arrange plastic palm trees atop the cake (find great ones in the pet department with turtle supplies) and arrange the animals and figures. Use a pastry tube to pipe in a message of joy and cheer.

The Devil Made You Bake One

Produce a lighthearted treat on short order to send a fun message to fellow believers. Purchase an angel food cake, ice the top and sides with your favourite white frosting and then press devil's food cookies into the side of the cake to make a yummy black and white dessert. Use your computer to write a message appropriate for the crowd. Print, trim and slide the card into a small plastic frame. Pop the framed message on the cake and even the sinners in the congregation will be uplifted.
