One thing that is sometimes missing from an otherwise elegant wedding reception is a unique card box. It is a detail that is often overlooked. The type of box you choose to hold your guests' greeting cards depends on the theme of the decorations for your wedding, of course. Consider some ideas for unique card boxes.

An outdoor theme with a lot of trees with lights on them makes for an interesting and visually appealing wedding. A bird cage makes a very nice card box for this type of wedding theme, as well as a garden themed wedding. Using your wedding colours, decorate the cage with flowers, ribbons and glitter, and maybe even a pair of artificial love birds inside or on top of the cage.
Purchase a mailbox at your local hardware or building supply store. Get the aluminium, rounded top type that you see along any country road. Decorate the box by painting flowers or birds on it. Use the same colour theme as the other decorations at your wedding. You can just set the box on a table, or to make it look more authentic, mount the letter box on a 4-by-4 inch cedar post. Anchor the post by using a breeze block that you can purchase at a building supply store. Cover the breeze block with a piece of artificial grass outdoor carpet, or drape it with a white table cloth. To give it an extra touch of class, you could even put the couple's name on the letter box.
A simple and elegant solution for a unique card box, consider covering a table with a white table cloth and putting a crystal bowl in the centre. Surround the bowl with live flowers. Place a string of lights under the flowers and around the outside of the bowl. You will now have a very stunning receptacle for your guests to place their cards of best wishes. If you are using a lot of silver on your tables, a matching silver bowl will be a very nice substitute for the crystal bowl.
If the wedding couple is going on a trip for their honeymoon, use a miniature suitcase as a receptacle for cards. Purchase a packet of 2-by-4 inch mailing labels. On your computer, create travel stickers to place on the suitcase. Print Paris, London, Madrid, and other major tourist destinations on labels. If known, include the couple's honeymoon destination on the labels, too.
