Larger noses can be a distinct and uniquely defining characteristic for some people. While some choose to embrace them, others would like more emphasis placed on the eyes or mouth. Certain make-up techniques and hairstyles can help draw attention away from the nose and place emphasis on other facial features.

Contour the nose with make-up so it will appear smaller. Select a powder or liquid make-up that's a few shades darker than your face powder and apply it to each side of the nose in a straight line down to the nostrils. This will create the illusion of shadow and make the nose look narrower. Apply a shade of powder that's lighter than your normal face powder down the centre of the nose to complete the look.

Widen the Eyes

Use make-up styles that widen the eyes. Darker eye make-up with long lashes will make your eyes appear bigger and will draw attention to the eyes instead of the nose. Use a dark eyeliner to line the lids and under the eyes. Don't use make-up on the waterline as it can make eyes seem more closed. Use a light gloss on your lips so the focus remains on the eyes.

Colour the Lips

Do not combine this step with dark eye make-up. Either pick the eyes or the lips to accentuate. For lips, make sure you line them a little outside of the lip line to make them appear fuller. Choose a dark or bright red lipstick that will draw attention to the mouth. After applying the lipstick, cover it with a high-shine gloss that will draw even more attention to the lips.

Hairstyles can flatter or emphasise large noses. Beware of shorter styles that can draw too much attention to the nose such as a pixie haircut. Pixie cuts look best with small features and a smaller frame. Bangs can be unflattering as they cause a break in the face, placing more emphasis on the nose. Longer styles with a side swept bang are the most flattering when it comes to bigger noses.
