We all know that one fellow who we all turn to for advice for all our electronic doodads -- he always seems to know about the coolest new apps or how to hook up a printer without breaking a sweat. It may seem difficult to choose a gift for someone who's exceptionally tech-savvy, but there are many stores that cater to the geeks amongst us and will help you find the perfect gift for your geek pal.

Fun Stuff

Although a gift token to the old tried and true geek shops such as the Sharper Image and are all well and good, you can have an easy time finding unusual, funny and totally geeked-out items at stores that specialise in geek items such as Think Geek, Signals Catalog and many others. Choose from one of Think Geek's many Star Wars and Star Trek-related items, including light-sabre Popsicles or a Star Trek Enterprise-shaped pizza cutter. Desk toys such as magnetic Buckyballs are a delight for the desk-bound geek, along with floppy-disk sticky notes and red staplers. Pick up a speciality flashlight, a gift card maze or any number of novelty geek gifts at and give a gift that will inspire wonder.

Geek Wear

There are a fantastic number of clothing items available for today's geek. A popular gift for geeks is T-shirts with geek-related slogans, sayings and pictures. The best of these come from Snorg Tees, who have many geek shirts that are perfect for every type of geek, whether they be literary, mathematical, or scientific. J!NX clothing also provides a large selection of geek T-shirts and geek pride shirts. Think Geek -- a large online store dedicated solely to geekdom -- offers many T-shirts, hoodies, hats, and even polo shirts with geek themes plus a large selection of jewellery for the geek who'd like to accessorise.

For the more serious detail-oriented work-efficient geek, consider buying customised notebooks, pads, organisers, practical bookmarks, wallets, magnifiers, organisers or laptop bags from Levenger or a similar company. A geek might also appreciate a stand or case for an e-reader or tablet computer. A gift token to the Container Store is also a great idea for the geek who loves organisation. You might also consider a power-station cable organiser from Think Geek, an online geek store.

Writing Tools

For the geek that likes to take handwritten notes, consider buying a Live Scribe Smart Pen that records every pen stroke of handwriting that is made on its speciality -- but inexpensive -- notebook paper. It will also record every sound heard in the room and match it with the text that is being written for an excellent note-taking system. White Line notebooks from Sweden are sold at bookstores and online and come in various sizes and bindings, including the British A4 ruling, small notepads and regular wire-bound notebooks. White Lines are ruled with white lines instead of blue, so when they are photocopied the lines do not show; a trick that any geek can appreciate. Whitelines are extremely economical.
