The Cuttlebug manual die-cutting machine from Provo Craft works with dies and embossing folders from almost any manufacturer, giving crafters the versatility to create custom embellishments from paper, card stock, fabric, chipboard, plastic and more. Whether you need to make one thank you card or 20, the Cuttlebug not only streamlines the process, but also helps make your cards more eye-catching and personalised.

Die-Cut Designs

Cuttlebug dies are available in a wide variety of themes and images, from alphabets to flowers, animals and graphic designs. Using your Cuttlebug machine, you can make die-cut images to embellish your card front. For example, if you are making thank you cards for a wedding shower, cut wedding-themed images from paper in your wedding colours. Use pink or blue paper to cut baby-themed images to adorn baby-gift thank you cards. You can also embellish your die-cut images with other craft supplies. Die-cut an animal shape and enhance it with wiggle eyes or a collar made from adhesive rhinestones.

Photo Mats and Shaped Cards

Because the Cuttlebug is compatible with dies from other manufacturers, you have even more possibilities for thank you cards. For example, by using Nestabilities dies from Spellbinders you can create shaped cards. Fold a piece of card stock in half before placing it on the cutting pad. When you place the card stock over the Nestabilities die, do not cover the entire die. Place the card stock so the folded side is not covering the die; after you run the cutting sandwich through the machine, you'll have a perfectly cut card. The large Nestabilities dies can also cut perfectly proportioned photo mats. Attach one of the photo mats to your card front, and attach a photo to the front of the card. This is ideal for wedding thank you notes, baby thank you notes and graduation thank yous.

Embossing

With the Cuttlebug embossing folders, or embossing dies from other manufacturers, you can give your thank you cards texture. Choose a thank you or gratitude-themed embossing folder or die; for example, Provo Craft offers an embossing folder featuring "thank you" in various fonts. The embossing adds a subtle texture on its own, but you can enhance the effect with shimmer sprays, spray ink or by lightly sanding the card front. Use card stock with a coloured core in either a contrasting or complementary colour, and lightly sand the surface to enhance the embossed words or images.

Other Materials and Stencils

Depending on the material you're cutting with the Cuttlebug, you may only be able to cut one or two die-cuts at a time. If you are making multiple cards, choose a simple design cut from thin paper to save time. However, if you are only making one card, you can create a more elaborate design. For example, cut images from fabric or felt and sew them onto the card front for an elegant textured card. Also, when you cut the images, save the scraps; the reverse image can be used as a stencil on other projects. Try cutting the words "thank you" into one piece of paper using an alphabet die set. Instead of adhering the letters to the card, use the stencil from the scrap paper with spray ink or acrylic paint to create the sentiment.
