When planning a super hero birthday party for your child, either choose a favourite superhero, such as Batman or Superman, or go with a general superhero theme. Choose invitations, party activities and food options that support the heroic theme.
Create your own custom invitations. One approach is to use the logo of a chosen superhero and cut that logo out of card stock. For example, if the hero of choice is Spider-Man, draw a spider and cut it out. Write the party information on the back. Alternatively, design a superhero logo for the birthday child on the computer and print it out.
Indicate on the invitations that guests should come in costume. Then have a costume contest where each guest wins a prize. Include prizes for most colourful, most unusual, best super power or strongest superhero. You also could have a supply of costumes for the guests to dress up in once they arrive. Offer colourful socks, shorts, sunglasses and hats. Guests combine different costume parts to create their own superhero and their own superhero story.
Superhero-themed activities entertain your guests while tying in the party theme. Provide guests with plain T-shirts and scraps of fabric from your sewing supplies or bought at a craft store; also give them glue, glitter and fabric markers. Let them create their own superhero clothing. Another idea is giving the guests cookie dough and letting them create superhero cookies. Provide them with cookie cutters, plastic knives and toothpicks to design their cookies. Bake the cookies, then give the guests frosting, sprinkles and coloured sugars to decorate them.
Make a superhero-themed cake to finish off the party. For a simple cake, frost a sheet cake with solid-colour frosting. Place small plastic buildings and superhero toys on the top. Carved cakes are an option if you have decorating experience. Carve a cake in the shape of a superhero logo, such as the bat signal for Batman or a lightning bolt for the Flash. Cover the cake in rolled fondant to decorate it. Cupcakes with moulded chocolate candies in the shape of superhero logos make good party sweets, too.
