Ideas for spending your birthday alone

Updated April 17, 2017

For some, spending a birthday alone is a depressing, sad thought. Others may find it refreshing or preferred. You are the reason for your birthday, so spending it with yourself is not an odd situation. There are many advantages to having a solo birthday celebration. It makes an ideal time to reflect over your life or year, make some changes, set new goals and just celebrate yourself and all you've experienced.

Pamper Yourself

It's your special day so use it to spend some time pampering your mind, body and soul. If you live a very busy lifestyle this type of birthday can be well appreciated and needed. Go to a spa or create your own spa experience at home with soothing music and candles. Take a bubble bath using aromatherapy oils, try a homemade facial and paint your nails a new colour. Engage in activities that bring you peace like reading a good book or doing yoga.

Date Yourself

One benefit of going on a date with yourself is that you can do whatever you want without worrying about if anyone else is having a good time. What better day to do what you want to do than on your birthday. Choose an activity that interests you. Perhaps taking a class in pottery or going for ballroom dance lessons is up your ally. Eat at your favourite restaurant or one that you've been wanting to try. Don't forget to buy yourself a special birthday gift.

Movie Night

If you are not in the mood to go out on your birthday, then throw a movie night for yourself. Rent several movies that you love or that you've been wanting to see. Put on some comfy pyjamas and cosy up on the couch for a movie marathon. Be sure to have plenty of snacking foods like popcorn, candy, pizza and drinks.

Volunteer

One way to celebrate your birthday is to volunteer your time or do a good deed for someone else. Helping others makes you feel good and productive. Spend the day making homemade cookies for the homeless or clean out your house and deliver items you no longer need to charity.
