An embarrassing situation for any athlete to experience is having a sports uniform malfunction. These incidents do not discriminate based on the type of sport you play. In fact, just about any one in any sport can have this happen to them. While you can take preventive measures to ensure it doesn't happen to you, there may come a time when you must adapt to such events. Even though a sports uniform malfunction might provide laughter for onlookers, it can also affect an athlete's performance.

Male and female swimmers are known for their svelte upper bodies and muscular lower bodies. Sometimes male and female swimmers might have a swimsuit malfunction while they are competing. Since the swimsuits for swimmers are designed to fit like a second layer of skin, sometimes the tightness and the extra girth around the rear end causes the swimsuit to rip near this area. The swimmer is left exposing their bare bottom to spectators. This can be an extremely embarrassing experience and may interfere with the athlete's ability to perform.
Softball and Baseball Follies
The softball uniform is comprised of various items. Many of these items are at risk of malfunctioning. For instance, stirrups are the elastic like strips that athletes wear over their stocks to keep the socks from falling down. After a while, the elastic becomes loose. When this happens, the socks and the stirrups are not held in place. This sports uniform malfunction has consequences when the player slides because the skin of the leg may make contact with the ground and the player can end up with scrapes and cuts on the leg. Button-up shirts also have a tendency to lose buttons, which can distract the player if it happens on the field. Sliding trousers also may have zipper malfunctions, where the zipper is stuck or it comes off the track of the fly.
Sometimes sporting events take place during bad weather. While some sports clothing can help protect players from the elements of nature, they may occasionally cause more of a burden than a solution. Yahoo Sports reports that during the 2010 Ryder Cup championship, the U.S. team encountered uniform malfunctions when their waterproof clothing was retaining too much water. The uniforms were then causing the players and the caddies to feel weighed down and ultimately affected players' performance. The coaching staff then had to invest in another brand of sports uniforms which did not retain water.
Ice Skating Slip Ups
Ice dancing requires the skater to wear elaborate costumes that are not only visually appealing and intricately decorated but allow the ice skater the ability to move freely. However, sometimes ice dancers are prone to wardrobe malfunctions. An example of this type of wardrobe malfunction, according to Bleacher Report.com, occurred during the European Figure Skating Championship when Ekaterina Rubleva wore a dress with spaghetti straps, and one of the straps busted. This can be equally distracting and embarrassing for the athlete when it happens during a championship competition.
