Gifts for an 8 Year Old at Her Communion

Updated July 20, 2017

Communion is an important religious sacrament and reason to celebrate. Family and friends often gather to honour those receiving communion for the first time. Gifts that acknowledge the importance of the day are usually given. Eight-year-old girls may enjoy gifts such as jewellery and figurines as special keepsakes that will last a lifetime.

A rosary makes a nice gift for a young Catholic girl for her first Communion. Rosaries come in a variety of coloured beads, pearls and crystals. Rosaries vary in length and can also be purchased as a bracelet. Consider giving an engraved rosary case or cross-shaped jewellery box to store the rosary.

Cross pendant necklaces and bracelets or cross earrings are good gifts to give to a young girl for her first Holy Communion and may even be given to her before the rite so she can wear it on her special day. Consider purchasing a pendant with her birthstone or having one engraved with her name and the date of the first Communion.

A cross that can be hung on a young girl's bedroom wall makes a nice Communion gift. Crosses come in a variety of sizes and can be found in pewter, wood, gold, ceramic and resin. Some wooden crosses can be engraved with the child's name for a special touch. Other crosses can be purchased with the words "First Communion" on them or with blessings and pictures.

Religious books are good gifts for a young girl for her first Communion. Have a leather-bound bible engraved with the child's name and date for a lasting keepsake. Prayer books and Holy Communion books are also options. Write a prayer, poem or comment on the inside cover along with your name for a special reminder of who gave her the book.

Photo Frames

Give the gift of a photo frame. Silver, gold, copper, wooden, marble, resin and porcelain frames are all available and many with poems or the words "First Holy Communion" engraved on them. Personalised frames are also available. Consider having the child's name and Communion date engraved on it. Personalised photo albums are also available and are nice options for storing all the pictures from her special day.

If you would like to give a young girl a gift of money for her first Communion, consider giving it to her in a creative way. Origami is a fun way to fold money into crosses, birds and jewellery. You can even fold money into a small box and place additional money inside. You could also give her a savings bond that can be used in the future.
