Moving light or heavy furniture can be a hassle. Moving furniture on carpet may sound easy, but carpet can be damaged if you push your furniture across it. Hiring someone else to do it for you is not always an option. Choosing the right equipment can make the task much easier and safer.

Furniture Sliders

These work great for sliding heavy furniture on carpeted areas, and they come in small and large sizes. The top is made of foam to protect the furniture. The base is smooth to allow easy movement. They are shaped to fit any piece of furniture and are cost effective because they can be reused. The foam forms to the furniture to prevent it from sliding out of place. To use the equipment, pick up a corner of the furniture and place a slider under each side or leg.

Lift Buddy

This is a lightweight, but heavy duty, tool used when moving or cleaning underneath heavy furniture. The Lift Buddy offers leverage that allows you to place sliders under the corners of the furniture without hurting your back. It requires only one hand, allowing the other to be free, so one person can use the tool. It is designed to lift up to 90.7 Kilogram.

Hand Truck Dolly

This dolly can be used to move almost anything, including furniture, and you may already own one. It has an L shape with two wheels on the back and a flat bottom plate in the front. You simply ease the plate underneath the piece of furniture, then lean the dolly back to move it. This works best for moving small or tall pieces due to the plate size, and it will not hurt your carpet.

Classic Furniture Dolly

Unlike a hand truck dolly, this classic dolly can be square or rectangular shaped. The classic dolly is typically made of plastic, metal or wood with four wheels underneath. It rolls with ease for moving furniture on carpet. The classic dolly works best for objects that have a flat bottom or are oddly shaped. It can be used by one person, but until you get used to how it works, you might consider a helping hand.
