Many people do not realise how popular flock powder is until they look around. Flock powder is used to create a soft, texturised feel to everything from snow on a tree to a design on a shirt. Flocking powder is made up of tiny pieces of fabric. The pieces are so small, they create a soft powder that easily sticks to glue and double sided tape. Flock powder resembles velvet when applied and is durable enough to use on frequently handled objects.

Art

Flocking powder can give any art project an interesting twist. Use the powder as hair or fur on animals in a painting or sculpture. Flocking powder is also an ideal material to embellish designs on paintings or sculptures. To apply flocking powder, fill in the area you would like to flock with an even layer of glue. Liberally apply the flocking powder quickly, before the glue dries. When applying flocking powder to art projects, wait until any paint or clay has dried before applying glue.

Crafts

Embellishing crafts with flocking powder adds a nice touch to projects. For a simple project, embellish a card. Any card with a design or picture can be embellished with flocking powder. Apply a thin, even coat of glue to the area that you want to embellish. Too much glue will run and ruin the project. Apply the flocking powder to the layer of glue. You can allow the powder to sit and dry or press it down to create a crushed velvet look. Costume jewellery can also be flocked. Animal shaped jewellery, such a bears or dogs, can be flocked instead of painted to add a furry feel to the jewellery. Apply a small amount of glue to the jewellery, and apply the flocking. Once the flocking is dry, you can embellish the jewellery with different coloured flocking powder for eyes and collars or you can paint features.

Apparel

Flocking embellishments can be done on many materials. Add flocking to shirts or canvas purses to create eye catching detail. To flock on material, heat adhesive transfers are best if the material is going to be washed. Heat transfers can be cut and shaped into the designs that you would like and applied directly to a shirt. Flock adhesives can be applied with an at-home iron, however, a heat press will give you a more consistent and durable end product. Canvas bags and purses can be embellished with flocking powder by drawing out a design on the material and then flocking over it. Apply glue to the material over the design and add powder. For large spaces being flocked, try to apply all of the flocking powder you need at once rather than working in small sections. Sectioning off the project will create lines from section to section.

Scenery

Flocking powder is often used around the holidays to create the look of snow. You can embellish your trees around the holidays by applying glue and flocking directly on the tree and allowing it to dry. Embellish scenery for other holidays as well .Easter eggs and Valentine's Day decorations can easily be embellished with flocking powder. Apply the glue to the surface to be embellished, and apply the powder. Decorations you can touch will liven up any holiday celebration.
