Air traffic controllers have a tough and demanding job. They must make sure that planes move through the airport safely and efficiency. You can play several games that try to capture this sense of constant pressure and multitasking.

Airport Madness Series

"Airport Madness" is a series of games released by Big Fat Simulator. "Airport Madness 3" is the most recent game in the series as of 2011. The game comes in both a free and paid version. The free version is a flash game that has one level and no emergencies. The paid version gives you more airports, high resolution graphics, emergencies and bad weather. Both versions feature attractive semirealistic graphics. This game is different from the others on this list because you also direct the planes while they are on the ground.

Under Pressure

"Under Pressure" is a standalone flash game designed by Flash Ninja Clan that can be played for free online. "Under Pressure" allows you to play as a flight controller as you work your way through different airports in England. Each airport has different levels of traffic and time limits. The graphics are very basic and designed to look like a simplified radar screen.

Air Traffic Control

The simplest game of the group, "Air Traffic Control," is a basic arcade-style game. You simply click on a plane circling over a runway and push the space bar to time the landing. The challenge of the game involves manoeuvring the plane down the runway into a hanger without hitting any ground vehicles or taking too much time. This game is the least realistic of the group.

Air Traffic Chief

Similar to "Airport Madness," "Air Traffic Chief" is another free online flash-based game. "Air Traffic Chief" has you responsible for managing the incoming traffic at a single airport. The game features an animated map and colourful aircraft. This game is controlled by clicking and dragging the flight path for each plane. These flight paths can be changed on the fly so the game is not a serious simulation.

ATC Simulator 2

The most realistic game on this list, "ATC Simulator 2," is a full air traffic control simulator. It is only available on the PC and must be purchased. The game does have a free demon available on the website. "ATC Simulator 2" has many different features including photorealistic radar equipment, realistic aircraft direction and voice recognition.
