According to the 5th commandment in the Holy Bible, children are required to "Honor your father and your mother." This command can be found in Exodus 20:1 through 17. Sunday school teachers may have a whole lesson dedicated to honouring parents. This lesson may end with a craft that the students can present to their parents as a gift.

1

Obedience Chains

Cut strips out of construction paper. Use several different colours and distribute 10 to 20 strips to each student. Instruct the students to write one way they can be obedient to their parent to show them honour on each strip of paper. Children may write "clean my room," "help with the dishes" and "do my homework without complaining." Once each strip has been completed, help the children link them together to form a chain. The strips can be glued, taped or stapled together. Have the students present them to their parents.

Obedience Poster

Lay a sheet of blue construction paper horizontally in front of you. Cut a white piece of typing paper to fit inside of the blue construction paper and glue it in the centre. Colour the outline of the word "Obey" in the middle of the white sheet of paper. Inside the letters, list ways you can honour your parents. Decorate the outside of the poster with coloured reinforcement labels.

3

Family Photo

Honour your parents by presenting them with a family photo inside a protective frame. Cut a piece of coloured construction paper to fit inside an empty CD case. Glue your photo in the middle of the construction paper. Write "Children Obey Your Parents" across the top of the construction paper, and "For This is Right" across the bottom of the construction paper. Add any other decorations you desire. Slide the construction paper photo inside the front cover of the CD case and give to your parents.

Ephesians 6:1 Craft

Write out the Bible verse found in Ephesians 6:1 on a sheet of white typing paper. Cut each word out separately. Cut a small foam pool noodle in to 1 inch circles. You will need a total of 11 circles (12 if you want to list the Bible verse reference on one circle). Glue one word to the front of each circle. Have the children stack the words in order so that they can read the verse correctly. Glue the circles in place and present to the parents.

  • Glue one word to the front of each circle.
