Many homeowners choose to go with wood laminate floors when the time comes for a thorough remodel, and it's not hard to see why. These floors give the full beautiful appearance of true hardwood, but are laminated for full protection from spills or wear. There's also the issue of price, which makes laminate even more attractive. Getting the floor to match the cabinets can be a challenge, and there are several different ways to go about it.

Dark Laminate Floors

For many people, dark laminate floors match up best with middle and darker shades of wood cabinets. However, if the cabinets are lighter in colour, then the darker shade of floor might not work out so well. The degree also depends on personal taste. Some individuals like really dark flooring with really dark wood cabinets, but many others don't want the floor any darker than the cabinets themselves. This means the best match for cherry will be different than the best match for cedar or mahogany.

Light Laminate Floors

Lightly stained laminate floors tend to go best with lightly coloured wood cabinets, or even cabinets that are middle of the road between light and dark. Personal preference of the buyer is a major factor in matching up the floor and the cabinets, but light wood laminate floors never match with very dark cabinets, and vice-versa. White oak for both will work fine, but white oak and cherry will clash.

Matching the Tone

If matching darks and lights together is difficult, one very simple solution is to match the wood laminate floors with the wood cabinets by using the exact same timber. This means lights, darks and tones in the middle match together perfectly since they're all the same timber. For example, white oak could match with white oak, cherry with cherry, or walnut with walnut. This is the easiest way to guarantee that everything matches.

Personal Preference

Personal preference will play a major role in which wood laminate floors match best with wood cabinets. Since various types of timber have more than one good match, at the end of the day, it's up to your personal preference to decide if you want all light, all dark or a combination. Middle-coloured timber like walnut can often work with both light wood or dark wood options.
