Design and print your own DVD labels and covers for your personal and commercial DVD collection with free and commercial DVD cover-creator software. Schoolchildren can participate in this activity using a free, online resource for the K-12 curriculum. Commercial DVD cover-making software comes with a comprehensive library of templates and picture-editing capability. Free software, however, may only support images of ready-made DVD cover designs.

Easy CD and DVD Cover Creator

Easy CD and DVD Cover Creator software, by Ben Williamson, supports both disc- and jewel-case cover designs. It boasts a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface, a comprehensive template library and compatibility with standard desktop-publishing templates from Avery, Neato, PressIT and PC Line. You can upload your own pictures, edit and resize your pictures to fit a CD or DVD cover. Then add track listings, title and artist information and text on the spine of your DVD label. Download a free trial that lets you print ten covers without saving them. Software is compatible with Windows XP, 98, ME, 2000 and Windows NT.

CD DVD Label Maker

CD DVD Label Maker from RonyaSoft lets you design for round CD and DVD labels, jewel case labels, DVD covers, paper sleeves and folded-paper cases. It comes with a template library and supports label stock papers from Avery, PressIt, Neato and other desktop-publishing label manufacturers. With its WYSIWYG editor, you can select a template, add a title and description, upload a picture, write a track list, select a printer and print. Software supports CD label printers from HP, Canon, Epson and others. Software is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2008, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

CD/DVD Cover Creator

CD/DVD Cover Creator is a free and interactive online resource to create and print a cover and booklet for a CD or DVD. Powered by Flash, this sophisticated software is meant for K-12 students to illustrate CDs and DVDs that they create for their school projects. Unlike commercial software, this resource doesn't include an image template library, but instead encourages students to design their own cover using simple drawing tools. Templates for organising text and drawings are provided for front and back covers and the spine.

UndercoverXP is a free program to design and print CD and DVD disc labels and covers. Unlike commercial software, UndercoverXP doesn't design covers with text and picture-editing tools. You need to have a ready-made cover design exported as images. Import your images in UndercoverXP as JPEG, GIF, PNG or BMP, and scale them to fit front and back covers, inside covers, inlays, DVD boxes and disc labels. UnderCoverXP supports 27 languages and is compatible with Windows 7 and Vista.
