Differences Between Callaway X-22 Tour Shafts

Callaway Golf, founded by Ely Callaway in 1982, became the world's largest manufacturer of golf clubs in 1996. Callaway's X-22 Tour irons feature precision notch weighting, a Tour-proven head shape and a redesigned hosel that can be adjusted to fit a golfer's specific needs. The X-22 iron series typically comes with the Royal Precision Project X Flighted shaft, but there are also several custom shaft options from which to choose.

Aldila Shafts

The Aldila NV Comp 85 is a graphite shaft that is available with three different levels of flex. The regular-flex shaft weighs 85 grams, has low torque (measured by the shaft's willingness to twist) and a medium kick point (the part of the shaft that flexes the most). The Aldila NV Pro 105 is another graphite shaft that is available with three different flex levels. The regular-flex, stiff-flex and extra-stiff shafts each weigh 105 grams, have low torque and a mid-to-high kick point.

Callaway Golf

The Callaway Golf M75i Tour graphite shaft is available with regular, stiff and extra-stiff levels of flex. Both the regular-flex and stiff-flex shafts weigh between 70 and 79 grams, have low torque and medium kick point. The shafts with extra-stiff flex weigh between 81 and 90 grams, have low torque and a medium kick point.

Royal Precision

Royal Precision produces four different shaft models for the X-22 Tour iron series, including the Flighted Project X --- the series' customary shaft. Rather than labelling different levels of flex by name, Royal Precision gives shaft flex a numerical value. The greater the number, the stiffer the flex. The Flighted Project X shafts feature flexes of 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0. All three models have low torque and a kick point that varies from club to club. The Project X shafts with flexes of 5.5 and 6.0 have low torque and a medium kick point, while the shafts with flexes of 6.5 and 7.0 have low torque and a high kick point. The Rifle Irons shafts come with four different flex levels and have low torque. The 5.5-flex model has a medium kick point, the 6.0 and 6.5 models have a mid-to-high kick point, and the 7.0 model has a high kick point. The Tour Flighted Rifle Irons come in five different flexes --- 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5 and 7.0--have low torque and a kick point that varies from club to club.

True Temper

True Temper makes four different steel custom shaft models for the X-22 Tour iron series. The Black Gold R300-flex (regular) shafts weigh between 116 and 121 grams, the S300-flex (stiff) shafts weigh between 106 and 121 grams, while the X100-flex (extra stiff) shafts weigh between 117 and 132 grams. Each shaft is designed with low torque and a medium kick point. The Dynamic Gold Irons The R300-flex shafts weigh between 109 and 121 grams and have a medium kick point. The S300-flex shafts weigh between 113 and 125 grams and have a medium kick point, while the shafts with X100-flex shafts weigh between 113 and 125 grams and have a high kick point. All three shafts have low torque. The True Temper Dynamic Gold with Sensicore Irons R300-flex shafts weigh between 107 and 121 grams and have a medium kick point. The S300-flex shafts weigh 111 and 125 grams and have a medium kick point, while the X100-flex shafts weigh between 111 and 125 grams and have a high kick point. All three shafts have low torque. The TX90 regular-flex shafts weigh between 92 and 104 grams, while the stiff-flex models weigh between 95 and 107 grams. Both shafts have low torque and a low kick point.
