Cub Scout leaders can be male or female, and while some of the uniform specifications are the same, some are different. Because the Cub Scouts is an official organisation, a Cub Scout leader's uniform also is official, much like the uniforms of the scouts themselves. So get your official uniform and start leading your future Eagle Scouts.

Male leaders have a couple of options for uniforms. A leader must wear the official olive-coloured shorts or trousers and the official tan shirt with short or long sleeves. These shirts are button-down with buttoned pockets. The leader must also wear olive-coloured socks that are knee, crew or ankle length. An olive web-style belt or official leather belt may be worn, as well as the official blue and gold hat or visor cap. Shoes that are worn are sturdy, like hiking shoes, and are clean.

The female leader has two separate uniform options. Females may choose to wear the tan and olive option, which is the same uniform as the men wear. However, women may choose to wear the blue and gold uniform option. This consists of the official blue culottes, trousers, shorts or skirt, which can be paired with hose and dress shoes. The bottoms are paired with a long- or short-sleeved button-down blouse and a blue web-style belt. Women may opt to wear the blue and gold leaders' hat or visor cap like the rest of the scouts.

Neckwear is optional for both males and females, no matter what type of uniform is worn. For males, a leader can wear a tan or olive dress tie, bolo tie, or a navy blue and gold-edged neckerchief with the Cub Scout emblem. A female leader may wear the Cub Scout leader neckerchief or an official scarf. A neckerchief is tied in the same manner as a scout would have it tied.

More Information

All clothing that needs to be worn is from the Boy Scouts of America. Women aren't permitted to mix uniform elements. For example, if a female leader chooses to wear the blue and gold uniform option, she must wear everything listed and not mix the uniform with tan and olive uniform options. Shoulder loops need to be the correct colour and all patches need to be sewn neatly according to specifications.
