Distance learning for nutrition degrees

Many different online schools offer a distance learning program to obtain a nutrition degree. These degrees can help prepare you for a career in nutrition or food services or as a registered dietitian. Students can obtain degrees at different levels, including associate degree, bachelor's degree and advanced special certifications.

Online or distance learning programs work well for people that want to learn at their own pace, in their own environment.

Kaplan University

Kaplan University offers different online distance learning programs in nutrition and science. Since being founded in 1937, Kaplan has been a leader in various educational resources and has been one of the most widely recognised online universities in the United States. Kaplan earned accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

As a private university, Kaplan offers Department of Science bachelor's degree programs in health and wellness, health care administration, health science, nutrition science and public health. Students also have the option to take the fast-track program to earn a Master's degree as they complete their bachelor's degree with the Master of Health Care Administration or the Master of Public Health.

University of Bridgeport

Located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, The University of Bridgeport offers a Master of Science in Human Nutrition. The program consists of 28 core classes, three credit hours of an elective course and a final comprehensive exam given on campus before graduation. Samples classes include developmental nutrition, evidence based nutrition, vitamins and minerals and research in nutrition. Students can complete all classes can be completed at their own pace on their own time.

The Human Nutrition Program is licensed and accredited by the Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education and the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

University of Massachusetts

The University of Massachusetts lets students received a degree from a top-ranking U.S. school with the constraints of attending traditional campus-based classes. UMassOnline Amherst offers a Master of Public Health in Nutrition. This graduate-level degree is available for students who have a bachelor's degree. UMass Online is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The Master's of Public Health in Nutrition is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

Hawthorn University

Hawthorn University offers two fully accredited Master's nutrition program. Students can earn a Master's in Health and Nutrition or a Master's in Holistic Nutrition or join the accelerated program where they can receive their degrees in as little as two years. Classes focus on biochemical uniqueness, clinical nutritional skills and wellness promotion.

The Master of Science programs have been reviewed and approved by the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants (IONC) and the National Association of Nutritional Professionals (NANP)'s. Qualified graduated may sit for the Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board's National Exam to become board certified in holistic nutrition.
