Your boyfriend is that special person who makes you laugh for no reason and whom you turn to when you need a shoulder to cry on. Make your boyfriend a personalised homemade present on his birthday to express your gratitude and love for him. Although homemade items are usually cheaper than commercial ones, the time and effort you put in to create them are irreplaceable and sure to impress your man.

Scrapbook

Create a scrapbook to reflect the journey the two of you have undergone as a couple and chronicle important events. Look for photos of the two of you taken during special occasions from when you started dating to recent ones along with love notes, cards, dried flowers, gift wrap cutouts and event tickets. Paste the items in chronological order and decorate the pages with stickers, glitter, stencils and romantic quotes. Alternatively, consider a 4-by-4-inch mini scrapbook that requires a single picture per page and takes less time to assemble. Take a Polaroid photo of you and the birthday boy and paste it on the last page before giving him the scrapbook.

Coupon Book

Your boyfriend will appreciate a coupon book personalised to his taste that allows him to pull out a coupon whenever he wants you to do something special for him. For instance, a boyfriend who likes your cooking will appreciate coupons to his favourite dishes, so he uses one for nights when he can't cook or craves your food. Create a coupon book of romantic activities you are obliged to perform whenever he wants or coupons to different chores such as cleaning his apartment or room, doing the laundry, washing dishes, ironing his clothes and other essentials. To make the coupon book, cut out 5-inch-wide strips of scented paper and write the activity on it. Punch holes through the sides of the coupons and join with ribbon.

Baked Treats

Personalise a batch of your speciality brownies or muffins for your boyfriend along with a birthday cake for an intimate celebration. Bake a heart-shaped cake frosted in his favourite colour and place marzipan figurines of a man and woman on top. Use alphabet-shaped cookie cutters to spell out a romantic or personal phrase and place it on the serving tray with the cake. Alternatively, place the items in a gift basket and drop them off at your boyfriend's office for him to share his treats with his coworkers and impress them in the process.

Throw

Make a throw for your boyfriend to remind him of you when it is wrapped around him on a cold autumn's night. Round off the corners of fleece in the recipient's favourite colours or team colours. Make sure it is symmetrical and folds evenly. Sew a simple finishing touch around the edges of the throw and sew his and your initials on a corner using contrasting thread. You can make it slightly bigger so you can use it with your boyfriend.
