Ideas for Building a Castle for School Projects

Construction-based school projects stimulate both learning and creativity in children. Students can use their knowledge of the construction of castles to create replicas of these buildings. They can also express creativity by using everyday materials to assemble and decorate their models. Students can construct model castles from items that are either already around the house or accessible anywhere that sells craft supplies.

Cardboard Boxes

Assemble multiple cardboard boxes and containers together to create castle wings, towers and outposts. Tape the cardboard structures together and then cover them in paint or construction paper. Decorate as elaborately as you wish. You can add flags, drawbridges, and conical roofs made out of construction paper, and you can draw in blocks and other structural details.

Craft Sticks

Glue flat wooden craft sticks together to make square buildings and rectangular towers. You can paint these structures if you wish, or you can leave them in their original colour. Draw, paint or paste on doors and windows. Glue the sticks in lines to create palisades. The scalloped edges of these walls will create a nice decorative effect.

Sugar Cubes

Cut out a cardboard base for your structure. Use sugar cubes as stacking blocks to create a castle, securing them in place using icing or glue as you go. With this project, you can leave an open space for the castle doors. Add in separate cutouts of doors, windows and flags with glue. Alternatively, build in doors with sugar cubes, and use craft paint to paint them.

Plastic Foam

Paint and stack blocks of plastic foam to create castles and towers. The useful thing about plastic foam is that it is easy to insert objects into it. For example, you can add toothpick flags into the top of this kind of castle. You can also draw people and tape them to toothpicks, placing them along your battlements like soldiers or royalty.
