To become a successful pastry chef--or patisserie chef if you want to get technical---you must seek out training to facilitate your career goals. Pastry schools are located all over the world, but schools in Europe tend to be the industry leaders because pastry is one of the fundamentals of European cuisine. If you have always dreamed of becoming a pastry chef, these famous European culinary schools might already be familiar to you.

Gastronomicom French Culinary School

This culinary school is located within a resort in the seaside town of Cap d'Agde, France. They offer both English and French courses to prepare students for a career in the food industry, with specialised programs geared towards the craft of pastry making. Students can choose from a one-month or three-month pastry course to learn the basics of the trade. Students can also sign up for a 12-week course followed by a four-month internship in a luxury hotel in France. In order to attend the internship program, students must be a holder of a student visa. These programs are designed for beginner to advanced pastry chefs looking to improve their skills.

Le Cordon Bleu

Le Cordon Bleu is one of the most recognised names when it comes to culinary arts, with locations all over the world including in Paris, London and Madrid. The Cordon Bleu is one of the world's largest cooking schools. Students interested in attending the Cordon Bleu can choose from two certificate programs, Intermediate and Basic Patisserie, or they can pursue a Cordon Bleu Patisserie diploma. Some courses are not available in all countries, so you will have to make sure your program of choice is offered in your desired location.

APICIUS Culinary Institute

This culinary institute is located in Florence, Italy and offers aspiring pastry chefs a one year certificate program in Italian baking and pastry. During the course, students will be provided with an overview of Italian culture, while learning pastry and baking techniques. Some of the courses included in this program are Baking Techniques, Italian Cakes and Tarts, and Cookies and Petit Fours. Once students have completed the first semester Italian language course, they can apply for a 10-hour-a-week internship to broaden their skills.

Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Pâtisserie

The Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Pâtisserie is located in Yssingeaux, France, in close proximity to Lyon. This school is a highly acclaimed culinary arts institution, training over 1,200 professionals and amateurs every year. This school offers several programs to suit the needs of varying levels of students: they have beginners courses and courses designed for pastry school graduates who are looking to improve. Each program provides students with 300 hours of instruction with a large degree of hands-on learning.
