The Husqvarna Viking 183 is a completely computerised sewing machine packed with advanced features and functions, making it a compact but powerful choice for the home user. Many functions, such as stitch selection, length, tension and speed are controlled automatically by the machine's computer. The advanced nature of this machine can be overwhelming, but with a few simple tips, you will find that this machine allows you to create nearly any sewing project you can imagine.

Review your owner's manual before you start sewing and take time to identify all of the parts of your machine. Thread the machine completely and sew several test seams to ensure your machine is properly threaded. Many sewing machine errors are the result of an improperly threaded machine, so take your time when doing this step.

Reference Chart & Button

The Husqvarna Viking Emerald 183 comes with a pull-out sewing reference chart located on the bottom right side of the front of the sewing machine. Additionally, it has a reference button always available on the LCD screen which allows you to get help anytime you need it. The reference chart and reference button allow you to see the stitch you are about to sew and recommend machine settings, presser feet and needles for best results.

Fix Button

The Husqvarna Viking Emerald 183 has a one-touch "Fix" button which stops a stitch in its tracks, allowing you to immediately stop sewing a botched stitch, crooked seam, or knotted bunch of threads. You can cut the threads off or remove them with a seam ripper and either continue sewing or start over. This button allows you to fix a small sewing error before it becomes a big problem.

Automatic Adjustments

The Husqvarna Viking Emerald 183 has a powerful set of automatic adjustments, including presser foot pressure, stitch width and length adjustment and tension settings. Read your owner's manual and practice with these automatic adjustments before you start a sewing project. While you can always manually override these settings, if you become familiar with them and how they work they will save you time and make your sewing experience more powerful.

Stitch & Stitch Functions

The Husqvarna Viking Emerald 183 comes with 82 built in stitches including utility stitches, heirloom stitches, knit stitches and a variety of quilting stitches. You can also design your own stitches or add additional predesigned stitches. Get to know these stitches before you start a project, as they serve different functions and come in several different designs, depending on the settings you choose. Additionally, get to know the "mirror-flip" function, which allows you to flip the way the stitch is sewn so you can sew over a large area.
