Nudists and naturalists can be found all over the world. The legality of nude or clothing-optional beaches and clubs in the United States is dictated on a state-by-state basis. New York permits this form of relaxation, and many public beaches and privately owned nudist resorts are available for the less inhibited among us.
Bonita Nudist Resort
Located in Candor, New York, in the northern part of the state, the Bonita Nudist Resort is a secluded retreat where nudists camp, fish, go boating and just relax in a calming and beautiful wooded area. Visitors stay in cabins or camp out in their own trailers or tents. The entire resort is clothing optional.
Juniper Woods Nudist Resort
The Juniper Woods nudist resort is located in the Catskills in upstate New York. It's a family-oriented, clothing-optional resort, offering a bathhouse, clubhouse, heated pool and other convenient camping amenities. The resort often holds parties and social gatherings, including dances and wine parties.
Cherry Grove Beach
Cherry Grove is a clothing-optional beach located in the Cherry Grove area of Fire Island in New York. Men and women of all ages are welcome in this clothing-optional sunbathing area. The Cherry Grove community is commonly recognised as one of the oldest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities in the country.
Also located on Fire Island in New York, Kismet Beach allows clothing-optional sunbathing. Although the beach is not fully nude and clothed sunbathers are often present, going nude or topless is tolerated. It's a viable option if other nudist beaches are overly crowded.
Empire Haven Nudist Resort
The Empire Haven nudist resort, located in Moravia, New York, is a family-oriented nudist resort that sits on 97 acres of land in the mountains of upstate New York. The resort is open from May through September and features a variety of activities during the summer season. Open to nudists of all ages, the resort features a sauna, whirlpool and several regular pools. The entire resort is clothing-optional.
Lighthouse Beach is located approximately one mile from Kismet beach and is another clothing-optional beach where nude or topless sunbathing is tolerated. As its namesake implies, a lighthouse is on the beach and is available for touring, but visitors must be fully clothed.
