Laptops can have a tendency to overheat, particularly when they are on for long periods of time. As laptops have become more multidimensional, being used for routine computing, downloading large files and watching DVDs, the heat generated from the unit can interfere with its productivity. The heat from a laptop also can be uncomfortable on a person's legs if being used on your lap. The larger the laptop, such as one that is 17-inches, the more heat will be generated. There are several cooling pads that have been developed to help alleviate this problem and to prolong the battery life of the laptop.

Cooling Pad Sizes

Many laptop cooling pads are offered to fit 15-to 17-inch laptops, because most chiller pads are developed to fit a laptop up to 17 inches in size. It isn't feasible to try to find one that singularly fits a 17-inch laptop. This means that it can be used for smaller devices and therefore, will be more functional. If you have more than one laptop or decide to buy a smaller one at some time, you will be able to use the same cooling pad.

Notebook Stand Cooler

Check out the Belkin F8N044-SLV CushTop Notebook Stand. Prices start from £14.90 and higher from various online vendors. Designed to keep the laptop cool and protect your legs from heat, it raises the laptop higher than the average cooling pad. This feature allows for resting the wrists comfortably while typing. It also can allow the laptop to be used in similar fashion to a desktop in that it can sit on a desk with a keyboard attached. Made from microfiber upholstery for 15- to17-inch widescreen laptops, it also has an accessory pocket for the mouse and power adaptor and carries a lifetime warranty.

Highly Portable Cooling Pad

Consider the Targus AWE45US HeatDefense Notebook Cooling Pad. According to PC World, the unit is moderately priced from £11.0 from various vendors online and fits laptops from 12 to 17 inches in size. Designed to shield legs and office furniture from high heat, it uses a crystalline compound to absorb heat. After turning it into a soft gel, it turns back into crystals so that no power or fan is required for it to operate. Online reviews indicate that it functions well and consistently. Designed to sit comfortably in the lap, it is also highly portable, quiet and convenient to use.

Movable Fan Cooler

Try the Cooler Master Notepal U2, which currently retails starting at £15. It is USB-powered and designed to provide solid typing angles while providing the possibility of much cooler unit temperature. A unique feature of this cooling pad is its dual, movable fans, which can be detached. The fans may be moved to other areas, such as the bottom of the pad at its hottest point. They can also be positioned below the keyboard. Because it provides one of the higher levels of cooling, the NotePal U2 is 0.59 Kilogram and 2.3 inches thick, so is designed to work better on desks, although it can be used on a lap as well.
