Grand Theft Auto is a legendary gaming series, steeped in controversy for exposing gamers to a world over-endowed with sin, crime and random, meaningless acts of violence. The PlayStation 2 version of San Andreas is one of the landmark games in the series, introducing numerous new features to the well-established format. One of these changes was the addition of driving skill, which improves your handling of cars as you gain experience. If you’re finding yourself skidding off the side of the road when you’re fleeing from the law, and you don’t want to go through the hassle of driving school, the “Max Vehicle Stats” cheat gives you the skills you need.

Cheats in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas work in the usual way, with a fearsome stream of button-presses entered mid-game to unlock special weapons, vehicles or skills. Ensure that you aren’t under any fire or being doggedly pursued by the police when you try to enter the cheat code. You’ll need to take your time the first time you enter any code. Find a quiet alleyway and disarm yourself (so the fist or brass knuckles icon is showing) before entering any codes.
Max vehicle skills cheat
Press the following button combination to improve your skills for all vehicles: square, L2, X, R1, L2, L2, left, R1, right, L1, L1, L1. The “L” and “R” buttons are the left and right shoulder buttons and triggers. L2 is the left trigger, found at the rear of the upper-left of the pad, and R1 is the right shoulder button, found closest to the face of the pad on the upper right portion. You don’t have to be too fast, so just make sure you get the combination right. You’ll see a confirmation if you’ve entered the code correctly. It improves your skills with any vehicle, including planes and bicycles.
Test out your driving skills
Get into a car (you can steal one, as long as you don’t get caught by a police officer!) and try out your new driving skills. If you don’t notice an improvement in handling and a reduction in skidding, you may have entered the wrong codes. According to GTA San Andreas.net, there are over 200,000 cheat codes ending in L1 which work in the game, so if you make a mistake it could still appear to have worked.
Add some extras
If you’re already cheating, you might as well go a little further! Press: triangle, R1, R1, left, R1, L1, R2, L1 to improve the handling on the car you’re driving (and jump by pushing the right stick in), or: square, R2, down, down, left, down, left, left, L2 and X to make any car your smash into float perilously into the distance. Remember not to save your game with any cheats activated, because it will mess up your saved game! If you want to play a certifiably insane version of the game, try entering: R2, R1, X, triangle, X, triangle, up, down to give pedestrians weapons and: down, left, up, left, X, R2, R1, L2, L1 to make them riot. Getting anything done with these activated is virtually impossible, so don’t save it, but it is extremely fun!
