The Watchtower is an illustrated religious magazine published by Jehovah’s Witnesses. Many Jehovah’s Witnesses like the convenience of being able to use their iPhone to access current and past editions of The Watchtower when they are out and about. In the past it was quite complex to do this, but as from late 2012 it is now much easier.

The Watchtower magazine
The Watchtower was first published in July 1879. It is believed to now be the most widely read magazine in the world, with an average print run of nearly 45 million copies a month. It is published in 204 languages and may be translated into more in the future. From the start of 2013 it has a changed format with some articles only available online, while the print magazine has reduced its pagination from 32 to 16.
The Watchtower online
In late 2012, the Jehovah’s Witnesses revamped their website and added downloads for The Watchtower and Awake magazines. You can select a language, which magazine you want (Awake, The Watchtower study edition, The Watchtower and The Watchtower simplified edition) and the issue (monthly back to 2010). Downloads are available as ePub, pdf or mp3 versions. There is also an online library which includes issues of The Watchtower dating back to the year 2000.
iBooks is an e-book application released in 2010 that allows users to read ePub and also pdf files on their iPhone or iPad. It is a free app that you can install on your iPhone from the App Store and use it to read selected magazines and books on your phone. It works best with the ePub version for The Watchtower.
Using Watchtower on Your iPhone
Until late 2012, there was a complex system to go through using iSilo and Meek Space to view Watchtower publications on an iPhone, but it is now much simpler. Install iBooks then go to www.jw.org on your iPhone. At the bottom of the page go to "Download" then "Magazines." Select "English" as the language and selected your issue. Click the ePub format. Once the loading bar has finished, open in iBooks then click to read.
