There are two ways you can access and send messages from your AOL webmail account on an Android device. If you've configured your smartphone or tablet properly and there are no problems at AOL's end, firing off a message should be simple. If you're having problems, a little troubleshooting should have you up and running in no time.
You won't be sending any emails if your Android device isn't connected to the Internet. If you're using a 3G or 4G connection, make sure you have a mobile data plan from your network provider. You'll also need to make sure you have a decent signal and that your mobile data connection is enabled. Go to "Settings" from your home screen or your "Apps" pages and tap "More settings" under "Wireless and networks." Make sure the box next to "Flight mode" isn't checked and tap "Mobile networks." Add a tick to the box next to "Mobile data." If you're using a Wi-Fi connection, make sure Wi-Fi is switched on and connected. Tap to "Wi-Fi" link under "Wireless and networks" in your "Settings" menu to configure your connection.
Configure your Android device's email app to use your AOL account. Tap "Settings" from your home screen or "Apps" pages, scroll down to "Accounts" and tap "Add account." Tap "Email" and type in your email address and password in the boxes provided. Your smartphone or tablet will automatically configure your AOL email. You'll be given the option to decide whether to sync your email automatically and set alerts. Run through the setup process and then send your email.
AOL doesn't offer an Android app for its webmail service, but it does provide a mobile version. Open a Web browser on your device and type "mail.aol.com" into its address bar. Enter your email and password in the boxes provided, and away you go. You'll be able to access your address book and send and receive emails from your mobile device's Web browser in exactly the same way you would from a computer.
There'll always be a chance that the problem isn't at your end. If AOL is having technical problems with its email service, you may not be able to send or receive emails. Try accessing your email and sending a message from another device, preferably on a different Internet connection to the one your Android smartphone or tablet is connected to. If you still can't send an email, contact AOL's customer service department to find out if its email service is suffering some down time.
