Sellers on eBay pay transaction fees to eBay and PayPal when making sales via PayPal. The amount of the fee depends on the cost of the item being sold. If sales are cancelled, you can refund a buyer and claim back the transaction fees from eBay and PayPal.

eBay fees

Enter the Resolution Centre on eBay and under “I sold an item” click on “I want to cancel a transaction.” You will need to enter the item number to cancel the transaction and this must be done within 45 days of the sale.

Credit or refund?

eBay will credit the amount to your account 7-10 days after you close the case and this can be applied to future listing fees. If your seller account is in credit by at least £1.00, you can request a refund via your seller account page.

To refund a payment made into your PayPal account, log into your account and click “History.” Find the payment you wish to refund and click the “Details” tab. Next, click the “Issue Refund” link, enter the amount and click “Submit.” Your transaction fee is automatically refunded when the refund is processed. If you issue a partial refund, a portion of the fee will be credited to you.

Be aware that cancelling a transaction will not remove any negative feedback left by a buyer.
