The speaker systems on many laptops aren't as loud as those connected to your stereo or entertainment system. Connecting surround sound to your laptop lets you enjoy your laptop media in stereo sound. Stereo speakers and other electronic devices connect using RCA cables, but laptop computers typically have a single AUX jack that is incompatible with dual RCA audio cables. You will need an adaptor to make it work.

- 3.5mm Stereo Plug to RCA adaptor
Obtain a 3.5mm Stereo Plug to RCA jack adaptor. These adaptors are available in electronics stores and online (see Resources).
Plug the single jack on the 3.5mm stereo to RCA adaptor into the laptop's "AUX In" port.
Insert the white and red AUX cables from the speaker or other device into the matching RCA jacks on the adaptor. The device is now connected to the laptop.
