Motion detection video cameras automatically turn on and record when motion is detected in the camera's field of view. Most video cameras do not have a motion detector option installed. A separate motion detector activator must be purchased in order for motion detector capabilities to be added. Motion detector devices are inexpensive and readily available at most electronics stores.

Instructions

  1. 1

Purchase a motion detector plug. A motion detector plug installs into a wall outlet. The plug has a motion detector sensor on it and activates the outlet when motion is detected. This type of plug is often used for standing room lights.

  2. 2

Plug the motion detector plug into an outlet where the camera will be.

  3. 3

Remove the video camera's battery and plug the video camera's power cable into the motion detector plug.

  4. 4

Set the camera up where you want it to record.

  5. 5

Turn the camera on and press record.

  6. 6

Leave the room. The camera will turn off after a few minutes and then turn back on and record as soon as an object trips the motion detector.
