Textures are patterns that can be mixed into photos to add depth. Textures are generally images themselves. You can crop out objects and patterns from images, and use an image editing application to layer the texture across an entire image. If you use PaintTool SAI, you can take advantage of the program's preloaded textures. And if you find that they don't quite fit your image, you can customise them for a perfect blend.

Launch PaintTool SAI. Click on the program's "File" heading, and then select the "Open" option from the menu that appears beneath the heading. Select any image from your computer, using the file explorer window that appears.
Click on the "Paints Effect" heading in SAI's toolbox. Click on the "Texture" menu box, and then select the texture you'd like to work with.
Drag the "Scale" slider to the left to compact the texture's grain on your image. Drag the slider to the right to expand the texture.
Drag the "Texture Strength" slider to the right to decrease the opacity of the texture, or drag it to the right to increase its visibility.
Select the "Save" option from SAI's File heading to save your textured image.
