Turn the power off at the home's distribution panel for the circuit you are working on. Confirm the power is off by touching a non-contact voltage detector to the wire's insulation.
Remove the access panel on the side of the heater, using a screwdriver. Locate the electrical connections inside the unit. If you are unsure as to their location, consult the heater's owner's manual.
Strip 3/8 inches of insulation off the four conductors in the 220-volt electrical supply wire, using wire strippers.
Loosen the four electrical connection terminals with a screwdriver. Insert the green, or bare wire, into the terminal marked "ground" and tighten it down.
Insert the white wire into the terminal marked "neutral" and tighten it down.
Insert the red and black wire's into the two terminals marked "hot" and tighten them down.
Ask your local building authority to inspect your installation before turning on the power.
