Updated April 17, 2017

Skype is a free voice, video and text chat application that helps you stay in touch with friends and associates across the world using the Internet. The software lets you create a Skype name, or multiple Skype names, and assign a log in password to each. You can log in to Skype and select the Skype name you want to use for that session, then log in and use a different Skype name. You can also access your Skype account on the Skype website.

Open Skype. Choose a Skype name from the "Skype Name" drop-down menu or type your Skype name into the text box if you have not used Skype on your computer. Click "Don't Have a Skype Name" if you are using Skype for the first time, then enter a Skype name and password, accept the Terms and Conditions and click "Next." Enter your e-mail address and click "Sign In."

Enter the password for the Skype name you have selected from the drop-down menu. Click "Sign In."

Click "Sign In" on the Skype website. Enter your Skype name and password. Click "Sign Me In." You can make changes to your profile, e-mail settings and password on the Skype website, as well as add additional Skype features or pay for premium Skype features.
